Gluten Free Play Dough Recipe
My grandma used to occasionally make us homemade play dough when I was growing up. One big batch would last forever! It’s something I love to make for my kids and my classes now too. The recipe is simple and its one of those things where the homemade version is far better than any store bought kind.
Since I found out I have celiac disease, using wheat flour in my kitchen isn’t an option anymore. Luckily I was able to recreate my favorite play dough using corn flour! This recipe is just as good as the original but smells like tortillas!
Gluten free play dough recipe:
2 cups Masa harina (can be found at HEB)
1 cup Salt
2-3 tbs Oil (coconut, canola, olive, it all works)
1 tbs Cream of tartar
2 cups Water
Optional: food coloring or spices to add scent and color
How it’s done:
Boil 2 cups water.
Add all ingredients EXCEPT water to a big bowl.
Slowly add the boiling water 1/2 cup at a time and stir as you go.
Once the dough forms a big ball, dump onto the counter and knead until smooth. If it’s too sticky, you can add a little more masa.
Knead in food coloring or spices (cinnamon, turmeric, lavender, herbal tea).
Store in airtight container for MONTHS!
